NEVMUG Winter Gala

I traveled to the NEVMUG Winter Gala last week. It was in Boston at Gillette Stadium, home of the 2012 Superbowl Champion New England Patriots.

All of the VMUG user conferences claim to be the biggest, but in my experience the NEVMUG events truly hold the title. If you are an end user and you are responsible any part of virtualization in your organization’s environment, you really owe it to yourself to check out your local VMUG. The user conferences are a great place to start because you have a mix of presentations from VMware as well as vendors.

Of course Dell Storage was there!

We had hands-on labs available manned by the Daves (David Glynn and Dave Stevens). It was the first time I’ve ever had the chance to sit down and go through some of those labs. I did the UNIX HIT kit lab, and I was really impressed with it. If you just want to check out how some of the Dell Storage products work, you should check out these hands on labs when they come to an event near you.

Vikram Belapurkar also gave a presentation on EqualLogic and VDI. All of the vendors had sessions like these, so going to one of these events gives you the opportunity to hear all of the big storage vendors’ pitches in one day. Oh – at #NEVMUG our hands-on labs and presentation were in one of the private suites. It was cool!

One of the greatest opportunities at the VMUG user conferences is the chance to socialize with old and new friends. Anybody who is anyone in the storage community comes out to these user conferences. You should be there too. We’ll be at the Toronto VMUG user conference on Feb 7, the Austin VMUG user conference on March 15, and the Silicone Valley VMUG user conference on April 11. We’d love to see you there!

In the meantime, here is a group of geeks from the NEVMUG winter user conference:

You must have taken that picture moments after I left! (Based purely on the level of beer consumed in the photo. :))
