All good things must come to an end they say. And for me, one of those things ended last Friday…..which was my last day at Dell. I had a great experience at Dell. I was there to see them launch their storage strategy which included EqualLogic, Compellent, PowerVault, PowerVault MD, the DX Object Store, the Dell Fluid File System, and finally AppAssure. I got to be at ground zero when the Dell Storage Forums brought the Compellent C-Drive into the fold, and was there to help the individual communities unite into one Dell Storage community.

I worked with smart, passionate, funny people at Dell. I met people there who know more about storage networking and virtualization than anyone I’ve ever met. And I worked for a CEO who is super social. It was awesome.

But as I suspected, I eventually was pulled further and further from the technology so I could focus on social media. And I’m a techie at heart, and I was getting antsy watching all the emerging technologies and not having the bandwidth to dig into them. And, I missed training. I think I’m just an educator at heart.

So I got very lucky. An opportunity came up that I could not pass up. So I’m now the Director of Training and Certification at Inktank. Inktank provides support and professional services for Ceph, which is an open source massively scaleable, distributed, unified storage system. I know quite a few people who work here, and of course I get to work again with my partner in crime Ed Saipetch.

So I’m working for a startup that is providing support and services for open source storage. I get to design the training (I already dusted off my Dick, Carey, and Carey book!). So I’ll be back into training, and I’m so excited about that! I’m also in the thick of things technically.

So stay tuned. Expect more education and technical posts from me, heck probably open source posts as well. So thankful to get to be at yet another good thing!
